College Week: Randy Pausch's Commencement

A series of posts in honor of my baby sister's venture into a brand new world...

Professor Randy Pausch's short life has changed the lives of thousands... take a few minutes to watch this professor's literal "last lecture".... After being diagnosed with cancer, Pausch collected his thoughts to leave a written legacy for his three children. He shared his ideas as a speech called his "Last Lecture" to his beloved students, and news started spreading as people were captivated by this father's inspirational yet extraordinarily perceptive stories and insight. He held his audiences spellbound, and people were stunned to hear how stoically he fought his disease and how he handled his fatal prognosis almost peculiarly.

It wasn't long until the whole country wanted to know more about the dying professor from Carnegie Mellon. He did media runs, he retold his lecture on Oprah, he even published his captivating legacy in the form of a bestseller book.

The very last speech Professor Pausch gave was to the Class of 2008 at his beloved school. The decrease in his strength was obvious, but so was the love he had for his students. No one was surprised that this was his last big event.

In July, the professor that we all grew to know and love, to truly admire and root for, passed away. It's kind of funny ... not too long ago at all, what he hoped to leave as a legacy for his children ended up being a legacy left for the entire world.
