And here's what I have to say about this past week... Keepin' it short, sweet, and to the point. Until next time.... :)
On-Site Orientation Day
This week was our first on-site clinical day. We started things off by learning the hospital’s confidentiality policies, safety codes, etc. We reviewed clinical expectations and assignments, received our photo ID badges and parking stickers, and then toured our unit. We met the nurses and floor staff as well as the CNS, who talked to us about the history of the floor. The unit began in the 1990s as a research project and soon turned into one of our country’s foremost models of geriatric care. She explained to us how the goal of the unit is to enable our patients to be medically stable and physically able upon discharge. After our discussion, we practiced using the equipment and room accommodations and even began a scavenger hunt before hurrying to our scheduled training class about the hospital’s computer charting system. By the time the class was over, our stomachs were growling and our minds were overflowing, so we went our separate ways, eagerly awaiting the following Wednesday: our first patient care day.
