Values to instill in my children

A friend showed me this, and while I don't have children, I think we all can relate to it. These are values we all need to instill in ourselves, as well.

Values to instill in my children

1. A love and commitment to Christ ... "Love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12.30

2. A love and commitment to family ... "These should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." I Timothy 5.4,8

3. A desire to bring the lost to Christ ... "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever." Daniel 12.3

4. They will be disciples ... Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt. 28.18-20.

5. Thankfulness and gratefulness for blessings in their lives ... "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalm 107.1

6. They would have joy in suffering ... "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." James 1.2,3

7. Confidence in God's plan in all situations and circumstances ... "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God." Isaiah 41.10

8. Be a living sacrifice ... "Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12.1, 2

9. A daily hunger for God's word ... "As a deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God." Psalm 42.1

10. Availability ... "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I, send me!'" Isaiah 6.8

11. Integrity ... "Maintain justice and do what is right for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed." Isaiah 56.1

12. Walk in humility ... "He has shown you, 0 man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6.8

13. Pray about everything ... "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6, 7

14. Be generous ... "He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses." Proverbs 28:27

15. Hatred of sin ... "Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 97.10

16. That they would be caught when they do wrong ... "It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees." Psalm 119.71

17. Protection from evil: emotionally, physically, and spiritually ... "My prayer is not that you would take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one." John 17.15

18. They would have a sense of responsibility … "Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom." Daniel 6.3

19. They would respect authority ... "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Romans 13.1

20. They would desire the right kind of friends ... "My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them. If they say, 'Come along with us, let's lie in wait for someone's blood, let's waylay some harmless soul." Proverbs 1.10, 11

21. They would save themselves for the right mate ... "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6.14

22. They (and their mate) will keep pure until marriage ... "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside this body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6.18-20

23. They would be single-hearted, sold out for Christ ... "Do not confirm any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12.2

24. They would have peace and contentment in all circumstances ... ''I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace." John 16.33

25. A desire for worship ... "Praise the Lord, 0 my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his benefits." Psalm 103.1,2

26. That they would be diligent ... "Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules"  2 Timothy 2.5

27. That they would be strong and courageous ... "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord." Psalm 31.34

28. That they would be teachable ... "Listen, my sons, to a father's instructions; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching." Psalm 4.1, 2

29. That they would be hard workers ... ''We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." Hebrews 6.12

30. That they use their gifts for the kingdom ... "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4.10

31. That they would seek wisdom ... "Choose my instruction instead of sliver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her." Proverbs 8.10, 11
